23:11.31 | tacticalbread | hey guys, quick question. I've been a long time GNOME user, and I just installed Chakra with KDE 4 y esterday, and the desktop effects demolish my CPU (just normal use, my GPU is running 90C+). Is this because my integrated gfx card is crap, or is there something wrong here? I've been using GNOME with Compiz Fusion for ages with no problems... |

23:30.40 | karthikp | Another option is switching to nouveau. It seems to work great on my old laptop (6800), and reasonably well on my work computer (9500), but not so good on my home computer (9800GT). So, it may or may not work well with your card, but if it does (like on my old laptop), it's a pleasure to use. |
23:32.00 | karthikp | When they take out the experimental tag on 3D support, I'm ditching nvidia on my home computer as well. I like the shinies. :) |

23:33.41 | karthikp | There are two problems. One, the 3D support is officially experimental. It works well on some cards, but not well on others. The second is random corruption. On my home computer, even with desktop effects off, it would corrupt icons all over the place. |
23:34.30 | tacticalbread | Eh yeah, I doubt it would work well on my card, my card is kind of crap for anything fancy. |
23:34.36 | karthikp | But the 7xxx series is reasonably old, so you might be okay with it. All my problems were on 9xxx cards... |
23:35.05 | karthikp | On 6800, things are so much better with nouveau than with nvidia. |
23:35.59 | karthikp | Flicker-free transition to and from consoles, toggling desktop effects is instant and virtually unnoticeable â your panel just turns gray. :) And monitor hotplugging. Awww Yeaa! |
