00:51.39MarkWilHi, I'm having trouble with keyboard layouts under KDE 4.3.2.  Problems go back to when I first started with KDE 4.
00:52.48MarkWilBriefly, I'm currently typing using QWERTY layout but prefer Dvorak.  If I use the KDE layout switcher app then normal typing switches layout.  But in KDE (actually QT in general, I think) apps, pressing any modifier app seems to temporarily switch the layout back.
00:53.22MarkWilI.e. pressing <key> gives the appropriate Dvorak character, pressing Ctrl-<key> acts as if I was still using QWERTY
00:53.49PovAddictthat's a feature
00:54.08MarkWilThrough Googling I've seen various folks report this problem but nobody seems to have reached a resolution.  I wondered if anyone here had encountered it.
00:54.27PovAddictso that things like Ctrl-X, C, and V make some damn sense
00:54.44PovAddictyou may not want the feature, and there may be a way to change it, but it's not a "problem" like a "bug"
00:54.46MarkWilPovAddict: I can see how it could be useful, but the fact it only happens in QT/KDE apps is a problem for me as I have to mentally switch keyboard layouts depending on what toolkit an app's written in ..
00:55.19PovAddictoh, that's indeed a problem :P
00:55.22MarkWilYeah
00:55.41MarkWilAnd it's a change in functionality from when I was using Kde 3 but I can't really see *why* that would have changed!
00:55.44pinotree(note that if you want to camelcase it, it is Qt and not QT)
00:55.44saethrdoes dolphin freeze for anyone else?
00:56.01MarkWilInterestingly it seems to also manifest in Qt3 apps, further confusing me.
00:56.08MarkWilsaethr: Whilst doing what?

00:56.31saethrjust randomly

00:59.32saethrseems to

01:00.48pinotreeMarkWil: yes, they ported it and continue develop it

01:01.30pinotreeheh

01:02.10Jucatopinotree: that's fine with me :D
01:03.15MarkWilI guess I'll try out some other layout switchers.  I don't mind Qwerty but it's a bit weird not being able to switch layouts consistently.
01:03.21szalJucato: Engrish?  'for successfur riving'? *gg*

01:08.26PovAddictone of the trickiest things with an alternate keyboard layout is probably vim...
01:08.42MarkWilI found it had a horrible effect on emacs
01:08.50MarkWilwhich already has horrible ergonomics before you move all the keys around!

01:09.19*** join/#kde wilsonsamm (n=sam@5ad14b9d.bb.sky.com)
01:09.51MarkWilIt almost seems like my keymap problem is more complicated than I thought
01:10.53MarkWilIt seems as if, in a Qt app, I use mod+<key>, it'll use a Qwerty interpretation of <key> if one exists, otherwise use a Dvorak interpretation.  Which is even more confusing!
01:12.07MarkWilSo, if press Ctrl+W in Konversation (that's the Qwerty key marked W, whereas in Dvorak it means ,) whilst in Dvorak mode it'll close the tab.  But if I do Ctrl+E (i.e. Ctrl+. in Dvorak) it will move me rightwards one tab as you'd expect.

Today, i dont know why, akregator started with an error about a plugin 'metakit' that could not load and would make my feeds to fail. But then it starts as usual. BUT it has forgotten about all items 'already read'. As such i now have 1300 unread items, and i have to sort them all again....... is there anything i could do/try to recover my previous state ? There should be only ~20
