16:18.24blackard_Anyone on that can help with compile problems I'm having?
16:24.04blackard_I'm running RedHat on my desktop which comes with gcc 3.2, but the toolchain is for 2.95.  How can I build a new toolchain?
16:29.36nils__Err... the toolchain _is_ 2.95, not for 2.95...
16:31.48blackard_so, that toolchain will work just fine with gcc 3.2?  I have been refreshing the source, cleaning up and rebuilding regularly over the last few weeks.  I get a few warnings when building zImage, but building modules dies with an error and produced a 10K warning/error log.
16:36.02nils__You do not use your host gcc when cross-compiling. The only point where it is used in kernel build is to build some utilities like the menuconfig or dependencies stuff. The rest is "native". All problems you seems to have should in 99% of cases be problems with other things. What errors you get?
16:37.31blackard_hang on... getting the logs up...
16:39.46blackard_the zImage warnings are mostly 'unknown conversion type character 'z' in format', there's a few conversion warnings, implicit declaration warnings, and uninitialized or unused variable warnings.
16:40.41nils__That's nothing very unusual and almost sure unrelated to the compiler.
16:41.03blackard_modules has a ton of 'dreferencing pointer to incomplete type' messages...
16:41.30blackard_modules ends with the following 4 lines:
16:41.41blackard_make[3]: *** [mwvlan.o] Error 1
16:41.47blackard_make[2]: *** [_modsubdir_wireless] Error 2
16:41.59blackard_make[1]: *** [_modsubdir_net] Error 2
16:42.07blackard_make: *** [_mod_drivers] Error 2
16:42.49blackard_it it would help I've got the stdout and stderr logs saved to disk
16:43.06blackard_Thanks by the way for anything you're able to help with.
16:43.20nils__Those errors don't help me much, the errors above those are more interesting.
16:45.56blackard_It's a 10K error log captures via 'make modules > modules.log 2> modules.err'  I can rerun the make to produce one log file, and send it to you compressed or otherwise.
16:46.22nils__simply send both, does not matter.
16:49.41blackard_ok... now here's where I show what a looser I am... I'm brand new to IRC... how shall I send you the files?
16:54.15blackard_I can't find an email for you in the people pages and help doesn't show a method of attaching or sending a file.
17:03.31blackard_whois nils__
17:17.22blackard_nils__: I send the files to your whois address.
17:17.36blackard_nils__: ...er sent.
18:33.40nils__blackard_: This will not work since I am only a current guest here. Please have it DCC FTP, OK?
18:35.05blackard_er... I emailed it to you mma29.dar.cam.ac.uk account... I don't grok 'DCC FTP'  I know FTP... but to what server.
