16:56.47arrrghhhi was just going to post that link
16:56.52tehrabbittlol
16:56.53arrrghhh64mb of RAM...
16:57.08tehrabbittyea, I just basically want to get the embedded WM5 off of it
16:57.17arrrghhh416 MHz PXA270
16:57.18arrrghhhnoes.
16:57.39tehrabbitti mean is it possible to get rid of the WM5?
16:57.48arrrghhhpossible
16:57.49arrrghhhperhaps
16:57.53arrrghhhreasonable?  no.
16:58.36tehrabbittwell I found an HTC Service Manual for it
16:58.51tehrabbittwhich shows me how to load a new OS rom, but i don't know where to get a ROm
16:58.53arrrghhhservice manual?  i don't see how that would help
16:59.03tehrabbitthttp://www.mikechannon.net/PDF%20Manuals/HTC_Melboume__SM_A03.pdf
16:59.13tehrabbitt<PROTECTED>
16:59.13tehrabbittb. Copy three files from ROM code into SD card and then rename the file name.
16:59.13tehrabbitt1. melbimg.nbh
16:59.13tehrabbitt2. PRL_20225_for_all_EVDO_devices.prl…..> rename to melbprl.prl

16:59.14tehrabbittmelbimg.nb
16:59.14tehrabbittc. Insert SD into device and then go into boot loader mode (APP5+Reset
16:59.21tehrabbittsorry didn't mean to paste it all like that X_X
17:01.02arrrghhhlol
17:01.02tehrabbitthow would one usually go about removing WM5?
17:01.07arrrghhhuhm
17:01.13arrrghhhyou're not going to start with removing winmo
17:01.18arrrghhhyou need to start with getting Android to boot
17:01.31tehrabbittlol ummm  how though?
17:01.37arrrghhhthere's... a few steps you gotta get thru before you can even think about getting rid of winmo
17:01.42arrrghhhjust buy a new phone.
17:01.57arrrghhhit's not going to happen.  if it hasn't already
17:02.05GNUtooindeed, with HARET
17:02.16tehrabbittit's more of an experiment tbh... just want to see what I can do with this thing
17:02.26arrrghhhthen look up haret like GNUtoo said
17:02.35arrrghhhit will allow you to boot kernels from within winmo
17:02.42arrrghhhso you can use winmo as a sort of crutch
17:02.50tehrabbittCan't really get into winmo that's the problem
17:02.53arrrghhhuntil you get to the point where you can wipe and install android
17:02.55tehrabbittif I cold boot, it lets me in
17:02.56arrrghhhlolwut
17:02.57tehrabbittbrifely
17:03.04tehrabbittthen it loads up the custom "locked" image
17:03.07tehrabbittit installs it
17:03.15tehrabbittand I can't get back to the home screen
17:03.22tehrabbittunless I cold boot it again
17:03.35tehrabbittbut then within seconds of cold boot, it starts installing that software again off the ROM i suppose
17:03.39arrrghhhso
17:03.47arrrghhhyou can't let it finish?
17:04.01arrrghhhdepending on the ROM, there's usually a few things installed after flashing
17:04.15tehrabbittno, if I let it finish, it reboots / locks the device so I can't get to the main home screen
17:04.27tehrabbittif I take the battery out during install, it just starts over again from "align screen'
17:04.35arrrghhhflash again
17:04.54arrrghhhif still fail, you probably have dead/bad hardware... in which case new phone :P
17:05.31tehrabbittarrrghhh: well, the device's ROM is meant to cripple it basically
17:05.32*** join/#htc-linux Andreyxxl[HD2EU] (~Andreyxxl@94.52.236.39)
17:05.35tehrabbitthence why I want WM off it lol
17:05.51arrrghhh...
17:06.02arrrghhhyou're putting an epic cart before your horse here
17:06.07arrrghhhi don't think you realize just how epic..
17:06.17tehrabbitt0_0 how epic? lol
17:06.40arrrghhhuhm
17:06.40arrrghhhi don't even know how to describe it to you
17:06.47arrrghhhbut you can't just go straight to flashing Android
17:06.55arrrghhhwhen i said there's a couple of steps before you get to that point
17:07.02arrrghhhthere's 100,000 steps before you get to that point
17:07.48tehrabbittso whats step one? i'm sitting on the "tap th escreen to set up yoru device" screen
17:08.13arrrghhhstep one?
17:08.17arrrghhhget haret to boot a kernel
17:08.24tehrabbittit goes to "installing" as soon as i finish the align screen
17:08.39tehrabbittand while it's "installing" i can't do anything... so i guess, how can I stop it from installing so I can install haret
17:08.55arrrghhhi don't know
17:08.58arrrghhhthat's for you to sort out
17:09.02arrrghhhif winmo doesn't work _at all_

17:11.00Markinustehrabbitt: the first step is to research the device and winmo drivers. You cannot simple "install" linux like on a PC. Every device has own hardware. You have to write linux kernel drivers. Can you write kernel drivers for linux? Can you research the hardware of the device? Can you dissisamble? if not, then forgett it.
17:11.43arrrghhhtehrabbitt, listen to Markinus.  this man has been there before.  he has climbed the mountain.
