10:58.39dspstvcould someone guide me on the first steps to install linux on my blueangel
10:59.00dspstvim trying to ssh into it
10:59.07dspstvbut get a:
10:59.16dspstvssh: connect to host 192.168.206.206 port 22: Connection refused
10:59.39dspstvthe device has still winblowsCE
10:59.56Fossithat doesn't run sshd naturally
11:00.05dspstvsure
11:00.05Fossiso you can't ssh onto it
11:00.08dspstvsure
11:00.35Fossiafaik there are loads of tutorial pages on the wiki and such
11:00.45dspstvFossi, i dont seem to find neither in the ma archives or in the wiki how to get pass this basic step
11:00.52Fossii'd guess you would need to run a linux kernel first
11:00.53dspstvwell lots
11:01.37dspstvI guess its quite obvous i need some little help
11:01.53dspstvis fine if i have to continue by myself
11:03.15dspstvFossi, as far as i understand to run a linux kernel i have to become root in the device an format the SD card
11:03.20dspstvso,
11:03.29dspstvhow can one become root
11:03.47dspstvif the device has winblows still on
11:04.07Fossiyou need to start a linux kernel
11:04.26dspstvdefinetively
11:04.40Fossihttp://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BlueangelKernel seems to detail how to do it, but i can't say anything whether it works or not
11:04.50dspstvok
11:04.56dspstvi will follow that link
11:05.24dspstvi trully got lost in that forum, many posts and your are always pretty uncertain about what to follow
11:05.47Fossihttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=236870 is a discussion
11:06.22Fossii'm just throwing out what i found with a quick look through, so it might be outdated etc :)
11:06.30dspstvthat thread i know since 2 years that i wanted to install linux on this device
11:06.48dspstvit get ultra technical.. almost a show off
11:07.06Fossihttp://handhelds.org/moin/moin.cgi/BlueAngel
11:07.09Fossialso
11:07.28Fossidspstv: well, that's the state of linux on mobile devices more or less
11:07.46Fossireverse engineering is highly technical ;)
11:08.58Fossii think to put stuff on a SD card you need a reader outside the phone so far
11:10.00Fossior not. don't really know. i'd be happy if my phone was working at all ;)
11:14.53dspstvi understand it get so hardcore, but to get more people to use and report things have to be bit more friendly
11:15.02dspstvthe wiki you helped me find
11:15.26dspstvis still unclear about where and how to install the 6 basic filez to boot linux
11:15.27dspstvhttp://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BlueangelKernel
11:15.42dspstvi will be happy to make it clear for people like me
11:16.18dspstveven translate
11:17.39Fossiwell, my major point is, if you are unsure how to handle linux or are lost at what to do, it's prolly not yet in a usable state for you :)
11:18.14Fossiit's not like it doesn't aim to be userfriendly. it's just not there yet and needs some tinkering
11:19.05Fossithat being set, i think haret wants to be at /Storage/haret or such, but it tells you when you try to start it
11:19.21sadeness_sometimes you need just a spot of light to get clear.
11:19.55Fossibest is to backup and try imho :)
11:20.21dspstvi use linux since 4 years now, i guess i can manage to install those 6 filez
11:20.25dspstvim not a pro
11:20.31dspstvand dont expect to be
11:20.55Fossithose files are to be installed under windows
11:21.15dspstvyes, in the SD card
11:21.21Fossiif you start them, it kicks windows out and boots linux
11:21.26dspstvbut why is not documented where
11:21.40dspstvi mean, is so obvious?
11:21.54Fossiif you have a bootimage that's bigger than your device's memory, you need to put it onto an SD card, yes
11:21.54dspstvim a newbe thats more than clear
11:22.04dspstvok
11:22.17Fossiotherwise somewhere #on the phone is sufficient
11:22.34dspstvtx Fossi, im making the backup now
11:23.06Fossi'somewhere' is quite configurable and haret tells you if it has another location build in
11:23.22dspstvi will try
11:24.26dspstvtx again for your time and patience, i wont stop bugging a bit, anyway here is so silent..

15:48.04pH5ah, on your host pc.
15:48.12dspstvahh
15:48.24pH5on the blueangel itself the device is called /dev/mmcblk0
15:48.59dspstvok, i see, but, right now i only have the ba booting via haret under windows
15:49.20dspstvit seems that the ssh deamon is not present
15:49.42dspstvso i cannot go in via console

15:52.31dspstvhei tx for the clue, i will try to ask in the mailing list
15:52.40dspstvto understand why sshd is not present
15:53.14dspstvi copied all those filez suggested in the ba wiki

15:55.52pH5dspstv: or continue to follow the sd card installation guide, maybe it works when booting from sd (it will still use haret).
15:56.22dspstvpH5, thats sounds better for me right now :)
15:56.33dspstvbut where is this sd card install guide?
15:58.07pH5dspstv: the wiki page you just told me about explains how to write the GPE image to an sd card from your host pc.

19:27.24dspstvei, could someone help me here,
19:27.56dspstvi connected the blueangel via craddle to my desktop computer running linux
19:28.16dspstvbut i still dont see any /dev/sda
19:28.54dspstvit do appears when i load a memory stick
19:29.16dspstvbut it doesnt work with the craddle so far
19:29.34dspstvwhere or how is this device created?
19:29.45dspstvi dont see much under dmesg
19:29.51dspstvany hint appreciated
19:31.41pH5/dev/sd* is usually created for usb sd card readers on a desktop. if you have a pcmcia-to-sd adapter in your laptop, it'll be some /dev/hd*. on the blueangel itself, the correct device would be /dev/mmcblk0.
19:33.03dspstvthank again pH5, i dont have any SD card reader and was hoping my linux box could communicate via the pda base (i call it craddle, not sure what that means)
19:33.50dspstvand that thing goes in the computer via usb
19:35.52pH5hm. that would work only if the software on the pda is set up correctly.
19:36.05pH5too bad you don't have a ssh login.
19:36.06dspstvi see
19:36.20dspstvim thinking why is it that i dont have that
19:36.30dspstvi got this sources:
19:37.05dspstvhttp://gnulinux.biz/files/blueangel/sd/linux/zImage-2.6.12
19:37.16dspstvhttp://gnulinux.biz/files/blueangel/sd/linux/initrd-2.6.12-hh2.gz

19:37.53dspstvhttp://handhelds.org/moin/moin.cgi/BlueAngel?action=AttachFile&do=get&target=autorun.exe
19:37.57dspstvplus the gpe
19:40.03pH5dspstv: that's strange there is dropbear in that initrd
19:40.32dspstvyeap when i double tab i see lots of commands
19:40.37dspstvbut no ssh
19:42.35pH5because it's called dropbear, not ssh. ps aux|grep dropbear on the ba to see if it is running.
19:42.42pH5can you ping the ba from your host pc?
19:42.52dspstvi cannot try to /etc/init.d/ssh start cause i cannot type the dot sign :/
19:43.34dspstvpH5, i assign me a 192.168.0.205 ip in my eth0
19:43.45dspstvtry to ping from there but it doesnt work
19:44.11dspstveven though ifconfig in the BA shows me ip 192.168.0.206 via USB
19:44.26pH5dspstv: so that's your problem, not missing ssh.
19:44.26dspstvi dont know how eth and usd are routed
