20:09.53joshephhello everybody
20:10.22joshephcan somebody help me with one issue?

20:31.12joshephanybody is there?
20:47.22Thhunderhey :)
20:47.49Thhunderjosheph, don't ask to ask just ask your question and someone will answer you ;)
20:48.36joshephokay, so somebody knows how can i connect my cubietruck to PC through serial port?
20:49.16Thhunderyou need a TTL cable to do so
20:50.36joshephi have the cable but where is the spot in the cubietruck?
20:50.54joshephin uart_0 or in CN9
20:52.01Thhunderthat's what i can't answer right now cause i don't have a truck at the moment :/ i try a google search by the way
20:52.37joshephi enabled the uart 3 and 4 by software, and i have tried connecting it in several spots but it doesn't work
20:54.26Thhunderthe ttl doesn't need an activation by software i thought it is enabled by hardware side so you have 4 output pins for it
20:54.46Thhunderand you only need to connect 3 (GND,rx,tx)
20:55.44Thhunderthis one is for cubieboard1/2 http://linux-sunxi.org/Cubieboard/TTL
20:55.58Thhunderi'm still searching for CB3
20:56.21joshephyes, i did it, but it doesn't work and i have read that port with 4 outputs is enable during/for boot
20:57.30joshephso i keep reading and i found this:  The uart0 3 4 5 6 are available in Cubieboard1 and Cubieboard2 ,while uart0 3 4 7 are available in Cubietruck, but uart0 is debug serial.
20:58.28joshephin that case i think those 4 pins are only for boot but i'm not sure
21:03.03Thhunderhmm.. ok sry so i can't help you out with that because i don't have a truck :( sry dude
21:05.16joshephok, thank you

21:06.05Thhunderwas just a try :) so if you don't find anything in google it's a good way to ask here but i think it is a bit sleepy here ^^
21:09.56pmatternjosheph: What OS are you running on your Cubietruck and what on your host (that's about to connect)?
21:10.53joshephi'm using Lbuntu
21:10.59joshephLubuntu
21:11.42joshephand the host is a Laptop with Ubuntu
21:12.43pmatternAll right. Which kernel is about to run on Cubietruck, linux-sunxi or mainline?
21:13.31joshephlinux-sunxi
21:31.47pmattern--> Hardware
21:31.47pmatternYou need a USB - serial converter, e. g. something like this http://www.exp-tech.de/usb-to-ttl-serial-cable-debug-console-cable-for-raspberry-pi. Don't worry about marketing stuff like "for Raspberry / foo / bar". What matters are connectors and an output Voltage of 3,3V (important, serial connections allow for more which can screw your device)
21:31.47pmattern--> plugging
21:31.47pmatterncable - four connectors ground (black), Rx (white), Tx (green), power (red)
21:31.47pmatternCubietruck - four connectors next to USB ports, labeled the same as cable
21:31.47pmatternconnection: ground - ground, Rx and Tx both "crossed", that is Rx cable <--> Tx Cubietruck and the other way around, DON'T USE power / red cable, this will harm your device
21:31.50pmattern--> Software
21:31.52pmatternU-Boot: make sure kernel parameters comprise console=ttyS0,115200
21:31.54pmatternconsole: all software with pros and cons. I'm using cu from Taylor UUCP (package uucp on Debian and derivates). user must be member of group uucp
21:35.29joshephbut let me ask you pamattern, this connection is only for boot or i can send data to PC?
21:36.13joshephwhen you refers "i'm using cu" it's cutecom?
21:39.48pmatternIt's a serial console. That is you can watch the boot messages and end up at a login, similar to a virtual terminal on *ix or an SSH session. Sending data works theoretically, in practice it's PITA. But this actually doesn't matter: if you got the serial console running you can almost always establish a network connection and then do all the rest via SSH.
21:39.48pmatternNo, the command is simply "cu". Just saw it's in package cu in Ubuntu, not in uccp as in Arch Linux (which I'm using).
21:46.19joshephbut if i don't want to try with serial console, do you know if i could use the other ports of the cubietruck?
21:47.37joshephsupposedly cubietruck has 8 ports more and maybe with them coulb be easier the connection, what do you think?
21:49.47pmatternSo why did you start by asking "okay, so somebody knows how can i connect my cubietruck to PC through serial port?" ?!?
21:49.47pmatternProblem is: theoretically it should be possible to tweak an SD card, boot from it and do all the rest via "real network" connections like Ethernet or WiFi. But in practice frequently problems will arise and then you use the serial console as fallback to fix. Serial console is never meant to do actual work.
21:49.47pmattern"8 ports" --> ????
21:51.53pmatternOf course it's also possible to just plug a monitor and a keyboard to your Cubietruck. But here the same applies as to using Ethernet / WLAN: you're not guaranteed it's working and hence the serial console is the fallback used to fix, too.
22:06.45joshephmm sorry for my first question, i am new in this topic and my level of english is low, so i try to explain my point of view and understand what you say
22:07.19joshephin this momento i'm losed X_X, let me explain you what i need with an example
22:09.39joshephi want to send something since my cubietruck to the PC and the PC can read and show by terminal the information that i sent and viceversa, and do it through tx, rx
22:12.14joshephit's similar when i did it with hyperterminal in windows
22:12.29joshephthrough max 232
22:12.55joshephbut now it's using the cubietruck
